SADC to hold emergency talks on DR Congo
SADC to hold emergency talks on DR of Congo in Malawi The Southern
African Development Community (SADC) is to hold an emergency meeting on the
crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in mid-January, Malawi
President Bakili Muluzi said on December 5, saying his country would host the
meeting. There is need for continued efforts if genuine peace is to be
ensured in the DRC, Muluzi told journalists in the northern city of Mzuzu
after holding talks with former Botswana leader Ketumile Masire. Muluzi took
over the rotating chairmanship of the 14 member community in August and has
launched peace bids in Angola and the DRC, which are both members of the
regional grouping. (MAIL & GUARDIAN)
