Executive defends adoption of competitive mining policy

The State secretary for Industry, Kiala Gabriel, announced that the Angolan Government recognised the need to adopt a competitive mining policy that would create an environment for investment in the sector, aiming at a sustainable development of this sector. According to Kiala Gabriel, it was useful to create an environment conducive to investments in the sector that would create new jobs and better living conditions for populations, especially those living in mining areas. He said that this vision was to ensure the geological and mining activities through the geological investigation of the national territory in order to provide the country with a database in the field of mining and updated maps that can lead to diversification in the rational utilization of mineral resources. On the prospects of the sector for the 2011/2012 biennium, he said they had been designed to provide greater diversification of mining production through implementation of programmes approved by the Angolan Government in the field of geological mining aimed at boosting the inventory of mineral resources.
