BP in deepwater drilling deal offshore / Bilateral co-operation with Japan

British oil major BP has signed a $340 million two-year agreement for a deepwater drilling rig offshore Angola, Norwegian rig-owner Odfjell Drilling has announced. The deal for Odjfell's Deepsea Stavanger rig, which can drill in waters depths up to 3.000 metres, and is set to start in the first half of 2011, includes three additional one-year options, it said. IN a different context it has become known that Japan will invest in the high quality of bilateral co-operation, mainly aimed for training of the Angolan human resources. According to Ambassador Kazuhiko Koshikawa, to ensure the trengthening of the co-operation, the Japanese government has been contributing to construction of schools and vocational training centres. According to him, Angola experienced difficult times of war, but with the achievement of peace in 2002, the Angolan government started to invest in the national reconstruction and reconciliation, whilst now the executive has adopted as priority the training of staff that will trigger the country to progress.
The diplomat reaffirmed the decision of the Japanese government to study projects so as to reinforce the Angolan socio-economic development, promoting actions to set up public and private partnerships. (Angop)
