Guinea Bissau seeks support for development programmes

Guinea Bissau Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior has appealed for technical, material and financial assistance from Angola to enable his country implement several programmes for the political, economic and social stability of his country. Addressing the opening ceremony of the bilateral talks between Angola and Guinea Bissau, the premier stressed the need for his country to proceed with the process of reforms, particularly in the areas of def ence and security.

He said financial support from Angola would enable the government to meet its debt obligations to international financial institutions, combat poverty and promote accelerated growth, through the investment and creati on of jobs. The premier praised the vision of the Angolan head of state in the strengthening of cooperation with Guinea Bissau in several areas. He reiterated his invitation to Angolan business people to visit his country to explore the possibility of investing there.

In his comments, host President Jose Eduardo dos Santos said that apart from cooperation in the areas of defence and security, Angola and Guinea Bissau must strengthen and advance bilateral cooperation in already identified areas. He also stressed that the results of such cooperation would bring mutual benefits to both nations. (ANGOP)
