Interview by Rob Davies discussed widely
The interview by South Africa’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, granted to the Southern Africa Documentation and Cooperation Centre (SADOCC) in Vienna before Christmas and published in this website early January 2010 has made its way into NGO, media and government circles. Circulated first by NGO networks specialised on European Union trade policies (CotonouTrade@yahoogroups.com), the story was quickly picked up, among others, by The Namibian in Windhoek and by The Star in Johannesburg. In addition, several SADC embassies expressed their appreciation.
In a letter to the Austrian Minister of Economy Reinhold Mitterlehner, SADOCC has urged the Austrian government to take note of Southern Africa’s concerns and, as soon as the new European Commission is in place, to support South Africa’s proposals, as described by Minister Davies, in Brussels vis-à-vis the new EU Trade Commissioner.
