Land tenure policy adopted

Cabinet has accepted a National Land Tenure Policy, drafted by the Ministry of Lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation. The policy aims to provide a means to regulate different forms of land tenure rights in the country. Announcing Cabinet's approval of the policy at a media briefing, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Nangolo Mbumba said the document was intended to serve as a link with other policies and laws dealing with land tenure, such as the Agricultural (Commercial) Land Reform Act, the Communal Land Reform Act, the Flexible Urban Land Tenure Act and the National Resettlement Policy. The Land Tenure policy covers the background to land issues in the country, the concept of land tenure in Namibia and land tenure reform in urban, communal, resettlement and commercial farming areas. It also deals with compensation for land occupiers and owners affected by developments and expropriation in communal and commercial areas, as well as government ministries, legislation and administration.
