Mogae promises universal education

President Festus Mogae has announced that his government would ensure the improvement of the provision of high quality education and training to improve a more competent and innovative labour force that can drive socio-economic and technological development. He promised that access to junior and senior secondary education would become universal during the National Development Plan (NDP 10). The President also added that his government was committed to ensuring better education by granting opportunities for tertiary education are improved through the expansion of the University of Botswana, the building of a second university, whose curriculum would focus on science and technology, as well as a medical school. He also noted that his government would ensure that increased training opportunities were created for out of school youth, and people already in employment who also wished to strengthening open, distance and electronic learning. He added that government would also ensure that the curricula at all levels continue to infuse life skills such as computer literacy, reproductive health, and environmental awareness in order to produce well rounded learners capable of adapting to the changing needs of society.
