Prisons Permanent Secretary resigns
IN a surprise move, the Permanent Secretary of Prisons and Correctional Services, Usutuaije Maamberua, has confirmed his resignation from Government.
Maamberua, who said he has resigned "to explore other possibilities", denied that any conflict with Government had prompted his move. Approached by The Namibian, he said he had handed in his resignation, effective from the end of September, to the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday.
Maamberua served in the key position of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance for a number of years .
He was then reshuffled in a downward move to the Ministry of Prisons and Correctional Services by President Sam Nujoma earlier this year.
Asked about his plans for the future, he again repeated that he was exploring possibilities, but that it would in all likelihood be in the financial field.
It was not possible to reach the Prime Minister for comment on the resignation. (The Namibian, Windhoek)
